About Us
Founded in
2004, Gray Technologies Press is a small independent publisher of
original works of literary art in print and digital formats. Our focus
is on the development of new artists and the application of new publishing technologies on
their original works. Our primary goal is to maximize the accessibility,
utility, and quality of our products while minimizing the cost of these
products to consumers. We
continue to strive to meet our goal by persistent research, development,
and application of new publishing technologies and methods.
For new artists and small publishers, cost is usually THE big problem. To
lower reproduction costs of our published titles, we use “publish on
demand” technology. Publish on demand requires a digital representation
of the work in a digital format that can be processed by the
distribution chain. The digital representation of the work is stored in
a digital library. When an order is placed, the work is reproduced
directly from its digital representation in the library to printing
devices that do not require manual typesetting. This allows
orders of one copy or a run of many copies but only in the exact
quantity
required and only at the time of the order. Unit cost is the same
regardless of order size and consistency of the product is maximized.
This technology and method of use allows publishers and their authors to
defer the high cost of storing and maintaining inventories of printed
works. This leads to virtually unlimited shelf life and title life.
Publish on demand technology and the distribution channels that they
serve are relatively new and they are evolving together in both quality
and performance. In fact, publish on demand today has evolved quickly to a high-level of quality and performance as demonstrated by our publish on
demand service provider, Lightning Source, Inc. Lighting Source provides
publish on demand services to publishers of hardcover, paperback, and
electronic book titles.
Lightning Source is a subsidiary of Ingram
Industries Inc. which operates Ingram Book Group, one of the largest
wholesale book distributors in the United States. Lightning Source, working with Ingram
and its distribution partners Bakery & Taylor, Amazon, and Barnes &
Noble, is a fully integrated supply chain which handles
title distribution and order fulfillment with wholesalers and booksellers. Most of
our time is spent working with our artists to form digital
representations of their works for inclusion in our digital library
which is linked to Lighting Source. We also work with Lightning Source
to ensure the quality and correctness of the final published work.
Please let us know if we can be of service to you!
